ZEE TV to launch new drama ‘Saru’ highlighting a village girl’s pursuit of education
ZEE TV is set to premiere a new fiction series titled ‘Saru’, which follows the story of a young woman from Khares village in Rajasthan who aspires to pursue higher education despite societal resistance.
The show, produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions Pvt. Ltd, will air from 12th May 2025.
The narrative centres on Saru, played by debutant Mohak Matkar, who moves from her village to Mumbai for college. Despite limited resources and family concerns, particularly from her hesitant mother, Saru’s ambition to become a district commissioner drives her forward. The character is depicted as a strong-willed Kabaddi champion who remains grounded in her values.
Set against the contrasting backdrops of rural Rajasthan and urban Mumbai, the series explores themes of personal growth, perseverance, and societal expectations. Adding tension to the story is Anika, portrayed by Anushka Merchande, who sees Saru as a rival and seeks to undermine her. Actor Shagun Pandey joins the cast as Ved Birla, a principled college lecturer and one of Saru’s key supporters.
