Movie Review: ‘Sikandar’

‘Sikandar’ is Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s masterful fusion of power, emotion and thrilling action.

At the heart of ‘Sikandar’ is Khan’s portrayal of a man caught between ambition and conscience, his emotional struggle, ultimately leads him to a new city and he crosses paths with strangers who later become his own.

As ‘Sikandar’, Khan navigates a turbulent world where the thirst for power and a dreadful revenge by the villain Minister Rakesh Pradhan, played by the talented Sathyaraj, leads the protagonist down dark paths of seeing corruption before him, experiencing moral dilemmas and self-discovery.

The character is no mere action hero; ‘Sikandar’ is a man wrestling with his own choices, torn between the pull of seeking justice for a loved one and the burden of his inner conflict.

Khan’s nuanced performance as Sanjay Rajkot, the King of Rajkot, who is hailed as – ‘Sikandar’, brings an unexpected depth to the role, capturing the emotional turmoil of a tough man who, despite his relentless drive, is ultimately searching for redemption. Directed by A R Murugadoss, under the banners, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Salman Khan Films, ‘Sikandar’ is a gripping blend of high-stakes action and emotional resonance.

The narrative pulses with tension as ‘Sikandar’’s journey unfolds against a backdrop of political intrigue, betrayal and a battle for control that reverberates across the city of Mumbai.
Khan delivers a performance that is both powerful and subtle, transforming what could be a typical action role into something much more layered and introspective.

The film’s ensemble cast adds depth to the story, each character bringing their own motivations and complexities to the table.

Rashmika Mandanna as Saisri Rajkot, Sanjay Rajkot’s wife, adds calm and serenity through her performance each time she is on screen. She is delicate, dignified and charming.

On the other hand, the character that stands as a chilling figure, embodying the corrupt force of unchecked ambition, is that of Sathyaraj, the antagonist.

These performances along with that of others like Sharman Joshi (Amar, Sanjay’s aide) and Prateik Smita Patil (Arjun Pradhan, the minister’s son) add to the raw intensity of the story with moments of human connection and moral struggle, heightening the emotional weight of Sikandar’s journey.

Under a deft direction, ‘Sikandar’, effortlessly blends moments of high-octane action directed by Kevin Kuma with quieter, more reflective scenes. The cinematography by Tirru, captures the versatile landscape of Hyderabad city, while the thrilling action sequences in the slums and prominent areas of Mumbai are framed with precision and energy, keeping the audience at the edge of their seats.

Music by Pritam, blends easily with the film’s emotional appeal, shifting between tension-filled beats and softer moments.

‘Sikandar’ is not merely an action thriller; it is a profound exploration of love, ambition, power, success, revenge, redemption and the moral costs that come with them.

Salman Khan’s performance is the film’s heart undoubtedly, but it is the dynamic direction, compelling supporting characters and engaging storyline that elevate ‘Sikandar’ into something far more than just another nicely made Hindi film.

The powerful impact of ‘Sikandar’ lingers long after the credits roll, provoking thought on the choices we make and the price we pay for all that we desire in life, as different individuals.

For Khan’s fans and lovers of powerful, action-driven narratives, ‘Sikandar’ is a must-see.

With its mix of action, drama, and emotional complexity, it promises to be an unforgettable cinematic experience for the UK audiences and beyond.
