The newly released series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, directed by Anubhav Sinha, has encountered legal trouble following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Delhi High Court on Monday. The PIL seeks a ban on the series, alleging that it distorts facts and hurts religious sentiments.
The petition claims that the series inaccurately portrays the hijackers with names like Bhola and Shankar, which are associated with Lord Shiva, thereby offending the Hindu community. According to the plea, this misrepresentation not only distorts the true identities of the hijackers but also spreads harmful stereotypes and misinformation.
“The distortion of crucial facts about the real identities of the hijackers not only misrepresents historical events but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misinformation, warranting interference of this court to prevent further public misunderstanding and potential harm,” the petition argues. The case is now pending before the Delhi High Court, as the controversy surrounding the series continues to grow.
