Ekta Kapoor & Shobha Kapoor summoned by police in POSCO case

Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have been summoned by Mumbai Police to appear on 24th October in relation to a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case pertains to the alleged inappropriate portrayal of minor girls in the web series ‘Gandi Baat’.

The case was filed last week following a court order, with a notice issued to the Kapoors for their involvement. In response, ALT Digital Media, the production company behind the series, released a statement clarifying their stance. The company asserted that they are fully compliant with all relevant laws, including the POCSO Act, and that any claims about involving minors are entirely false.

The statement also clarified that Ekta and Shobha Kapoor are not involved in the daily operations of the company, including content creation, which is handled by separate teams. ALT Digital Media expressed confidence in the judicial process and confirmed their cooperation with the investigation, refraining from further comments as the matter is sub-judice.

This summons highlights the ongoing scrutiny faced by creators in the Indian digital content space regarding the depiction of sensitive themes in media.
