Varun Dhawan turns 36: A look back at five of his dance numbers

Bollywood heartthrob Varun Dhawan made a splash on the silver screen in 2012 with Dharma Productions’ ‘Student Of The Year’. He hasn’t looked back since.

The son of David Dhawan, has witnessed huge success owing to his good looks, comedy elements, intense drama and foot-tapping dance numbers. As we celebrate the actor’s 36th birthday, BizAsiaLive.com takes a closer look at five of his popular dance tracks.

JugJugg Jeeyo – The Punjaabban SongThe Hindi version of the Pakistani anthem, originally sung by Abrar-ul-Haq became a rage before the film released in 2022. The colourful, yet star-studded video included appearances by other cast members; Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Maniesh Paul. The rehash version by Tanishq Bagchi created a storm when Haq accused the makers of stealing the number and claimed that he had not sold the rights.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania – Badri Ki DulhaniaAfter the stomping success of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, the sequel too proved a runaway success. The title song of the film ‘Badri Ki Dulhania’ by Neha Kakkar and Dev Negi, became a success for its Holi vibes. A lesser known fact is that the film’s title ‘Badrinath’ derived from Dhawan’s nickname as Badri by a close friend in college.

Street Dancer 3D – GarmiBadshah and Neha Kakkar collaborated for this peppy dance number, which had sultry shades to it. The song’s on-screen chemistry between Dhawan and Nora Fatehi also became a huge success. ‘Garmi’ was released in 2019, weeks before the film’s opening in 2020. Not many would know that Katrina Kaif was the first choice for the film before Shraddha Kapoor.

Kalank – First Class‘Kalank’ was the fourth film featuring Dhawan and Alia Bhatt after the successes of ‘Student Of The Year’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’. Whilst ‘Kalank’ was not a success commercially, the film’s music is still played often on radio stations globally. The song featured Dhawan along with Kiara Advani, with glimpses of Bhatt in sections of the song. If rumours to have it, Varun had asked Advani to be a part of the song once, to which she agreed.

Student Of The Year – RadhaThe song ‘Radha’ was Varun Dhawan’s first major chart success but despite this, the song created controversy after its makers were accused of hurting religious sentiments for referring the mythological figure Radha as “sexy” in the song. The film marked the debut of three superstars – Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes Varun Dhawan a Happy 36th Birthday.
