‘Lahore 1947’ & ‘Sarzameen’ to omit Pakistan references amid ongoing tensions

‘Lahore 1947’ & ‘Sarzameen’ to omit Pakistan references amid ongoing tensions

Amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, filmmakers are reportedly reassessing their projects, including Sunny Deol’s ‘Lahore 1947’ and Kajol’s ‘Sarzameen’.

According to sources, both films are expected to undergo significant script revisions to remove any references to Pakistan.

One of the first productions affected is Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s political thriller ‘Sarzameen’. A source close to the film stated, “The film never explicitly referenced Pakistan, but since it is set in Kashmir, certain scenes were perceived as politically sensitive given the current climate. The film was initially scheduled for release on 30th May, but some portions are now being redubbed.”

Similarly, Sunny Deol’s ‘Lahore 1947’ is also under scrutiny. An insider explained, “The film’s narrative is currently at odds with the prevailing national sentiment, prompting the team to reassess how to proceed. They need to find a way to retain the essence of the story without appearing insensitive in light of the situation.”
