Farmers halt screening of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sooryavanshi’ in Punjab

The screening of Akshay Kumar’s latest release was stopped in Punjab on Saturday after farmers protested against the actor for not supporting the protest.

Box Office Worldwide reports that activists from the Bharti Kisan Union (Kadian), led by the organisation’s district president Swaran Dhugga, conducted a protest march from the local Shaheed Udham Singh Park to the Swaran cinema to protest the film’s screening.

The demonstrators added that they would object to Kumar’s films until the farm laws were removed. The farmers protest have been going on since November last year. Protesters are urging the India government to repeal three agricultural laws: the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
