Birthday Love: Kajol’s love for music & poetry in films

Loud, bubbly and full of fun, when giving interviews this actress knows how to make others smile. Her love for her family, life and films can be seen via her various posts on Instagram. Likewise her characters in many films have certain interests in their life such as music and poetry.

Kajol is the actress we are talking about as she celebrates her birthday on the 5th August. BizAsiaLive.com will look back at five characters from five films who had a love for music and poetry.

‘Sapnay’ (also known as ‘Minsara Kanavu’) (1997)
Priya (Kajol) is a girl who has spent her entire childhood at a convent. Brought up by nuns she has two things she is passionate about, one being her love for music and the second is her devotion for the almighty. There are so many scenes in the film where Priya can be seen bringing her two passions together. One scene is where the choir at the convent can be seen rehearsing but they seem to lack any feeling when they sing. Seeing this Priya says to them think about what they are singing and for whom they are singing. She begins to sing with such devotion that everyone is memorised that even the choir join in encouraged by her singing.

Later on in the film Priya meets her childhood buddy Thomas (Arvind Swamy) who falls for her. At one point he wants to confess to her but realises he can’t because Priya wants to become a nun. With the help of Prabhudheva, a hairstylist and singer he wants to stop her from becoming a nun and express his feelings to her. Not by planning but by chance Priya ends up joining Prabhudheva’s band and becomes the main singer.

‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (1995)
Simran (Kajol) has a secret little world which she keeps hidden from everyone. It is one that contains all her dreams and aspirations kept closed inside her diary. One day her mother finds her diary and starts reading it at which Simran quickly takes the diary from her mother before she can read another word. Impressed by what she has read so far her mother begs Simran to let her finish reading the rest but Simran says it is a private diary so no. After some persuasion Simran begins to read what she has written to her mother. Her words speak of a stranger who enters her thoughts on a regular basis. Her mother praises her for her wonderful poetry and at one point believes that the stranger she speaks of is a real person but Simran reassures her that there is no one in her life as yet.

‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ (2001)
Anjali (Kajol) is a dedicated cricket fan, mad about Indian cinema and a secret poet. When her best friend Rukhsar tells her about her fiance Ashfaq who is a poet, Anjali is over the moon. She believes that her and Ashfaq will get on really well because even she does some poetry. Many times Anjali can be seen reciting some poetry but unfortunately her audience either fail to understand her poetry or they just don’t appreciate it.

While her poetry may not be worthy of any awards she definitely deserves an award for her effort.

‘Fanaa’ (2006)
In this film Kajol played the role of Zooni, a Kashmiri girl who was born blind but doesn’t let that stop her from loving and living life to the full. When on a trip to New Delhi with her teacher and friends she meets the charming Rehan Khan, (Aamir Khan) a tourist guide who has a way with the ladies. He is often seen impressing those around him with his poetry which is very impressive however what he doesn’t know is that Zooni is no less when it comes to expressing herself with words. A time comes when Rehan tries to avoid Zooni because of his increasing feelings for her.

Zooni arrives to the place where Rehan is showing some tourists various famous landmarks. It is there where she asks that he doesn’t avoid her, if she has made a mistake then he should forget the mistake but not her and that through poetry. The tourists listening seem amazed by her words and applaud her.

‘Helicopter Eela’ (2018)
Eela (Kajol) is the mother of college going son whose whole world revolves around him. In her youth she was an aspiring singer/ model who managed to get a big break but due to certain issues she never reached great heights. As her son is now a grown up he wishes that his mother would just focus on her own life and think about her own happiness. He actually begs her to stop being so involved in his life after which she decides to go back to college and it is the one her son studies at. There she manages to get back into music and begins singing again. Although she faces a lot of problems due to her age but that doesn’t stop her from continuing her passion for singing.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Kajol a very happy birthday!
